I feel too close to be losin' touch
By givin' in what I'm-a givin' up
Am I losin' way too much?

"In two weeks, despite these notes, I shall no longer believe in what I am experiencing now. One must leave behind a trace of this journey which memory forgets. One must, when this is impossible, write or draw without responding to the romantic solicitations of pain, without enjoying suffering like music, tieing a pen to one's foot if need be, helping the doctors who can learn nothing from laziness."

-Jean Cocteau, Opium

My favourite Rousseau quotes

"I must warn the reader that this chapter should be read with care, for I have not the skill to make myself clear for those who do not wish you concentrate their attention."

"The third kind is so manifestly bad that the pleasure of demonstrating its badness would be a waste of time."

"What?"

In the creation of the heavens and the Earth, and in the alternation of night and day, and in the sailing of ships through the sea for trade, and in the rain allowed to fall for the parched land to live, and in the diversity of living creatures, and in the changing patterns of the clouds and winds, in all these things are signs for the wise.

"You should capitalise on this run of great form and paint as much as possible. Something eerily divine is being projected from your subconscious onto canvas."

TRUTH.

For art to exist, for any sort of aesthetic activity or perception to exist, a certain physiological precondition is indispensable: intoxication.

-Nietzsche

NOTE: I hated Nietzsche in college, probably because of the way he was presented to me. In recent years, I've read some of his stuff, & I absolutely love him. I've just been reading quotes, & a lot of them are things I feel & often say. I'm going to be tackling more of his work, & am still reading up on eternal return. Exciting. I just have to take it slowly, cos philosophy's not my thing, really, as I am a supporter of action over thought, but his is so interesting that I really want to understand all the concepts. I might saunter off into other realms as well, in the near future.

My sister Macarena sent me this, and it made me cry.

She wins who calls herself beautiful and challenges the world to change to truly see her.
